I highly recommend you use another EJ25 from the same year Subaru. An engine from a Forester or Outback should work.

Exactly. Otherwise, you'll be chasing EGR, harness, ECM, and possibly cat conv/O2 sensor issues too.
What engines out there would fit? what's the best both quality and price wise
