Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Three AAA batteries since October. No 'leak' or 'drain' detected when tested, alternator is good. Either three AAA batteries were bad, or there is something coming on that drains the battery in 48 hours.

Tiny short, make sure all the block & battery to frame or vise-versa grounds & wires are good and that none of the power wires are touching metal and shorting out. look at the wires real good, if not located buy a battery disconnect switch to be able to unhook it when not in use, the switch will save your battery terminal from being over used until you can fine the issue.

The car is at the shop now, and they have concluded (again), that is nothing causing the battery to drain, and that the battery is bad (this is the third battery since last Oct from AAA), He suggested trying an Interstate battery, and see if there continues to be a problem. I will pass along this info as I'm not convinced that three batteries can be bad, Thanks.

Happened again, new Interstate battery was installed, worked without problems for two weeks, then after not using the car for two days, it wouldn't start. Jumped it, a couple of more days, then it happened again, and then again two days later. New clue, when running, the radio wouldn't shut off (it did shut off when the key was turned off).. After the last jump, it shut off again. Thanks,

There is a drain either active short somewhere or a drain in the ability to charge battery or alternator is going out. Check for loose/damaged/corroded/missing connections at alternator, Grounds from battery and engine block to frame, Battery terminals. You can use tool like in picture below to find shorts.

Odd behavior makes me suspect that the radio may be draining battery when parked/off. Charge battery and disconnect power to radio. If holds charge while car is in normal use, then you may have isolated cause of the drain.

Radio may be draining battery. Charge Battery and disconnect power source to radio. Pull the fuse that services the battery. That will isolate the radio from the battery and possibly identify the radio as the dtrain source.

I disconnected the fuse for the stereo and it sounded the battery draining problem. But no stereo. I'd love to keep on debugging this to get the stereo working, any ideas?

Simplest and cheapest fix is to continually remove/reinstall the fuse each time you drive and park the car. Here is a YouTube video that also offers a second possible solution. And another YouTubeVideo on how to locate a parasitic battery drain and identify the circuit that may be causing the drain,

sounds silly man but mine didn't go back in and I got to mess with it and it controlled like the radio all sorts of stuff up under there so whenever it started shorting out it made the whole car sound like it was messed up but it didn't put the other switch in there they did and it's perfect but it's supposed to be like a problem everybody had a problem with it

and it might be one more thing is your ignition right there in between the seats The way It Is everything gets like down in it and it really takes a pound and I had to put another one in mine but it wouldn't turn the car off and it gets stuck and when you might check that too
