Its the same motor as any ford ranger with a V6. Also a V8 swap to a ford 5.0 is pretty easy and common.
Agree with Kyle. Any Ranger engine will fit, (same model year Explorers too) but there have been plenty of V8 swaps done on Rangers and Explorers. Just remember a V8 swap will affect the rest of the drivetrain, ECU's, etc.
