i am looking into getting into a mazda rx8 what would be maintenance or other
other precautions would be necessary for it to be semi "reliable" in the cold  as
a daily driver

The main thing would be poor winter traction. If you own it already have your mechanic "winterize" it.

Don't get one as they are a maintenance nightmare.
