Transmission fluid replacement
The transmission in my 2006 Mazda Miata MX5
slipped while driving three days ago. It hasn't
slipped since. I have an appointment to drain and
replace transmission fluid, and replace filter. I'm
the original owner but don't know if the
transmission fluid has ever been changed because
my husband used to take care of it. Just over
154,000 miles I hope this will take care of it since
it hasn't slipped since. What next if I continue to
have issues? I'm concerned about putting more
money into a car this age but I love my Miata.I just
spent $1400.00 on a new top.
If it slips after the service then I fear you maybe looking at a warning sign that the transmission is on it's last leg and will require overhauling soon, some additives like TransX help for a short time but eventually it is going to need work.
That is what I feared. I'm a little leary of rebuilt transmissions. Can a new transmission be found for a 2006 Mazda Miata MX5? I don't want to borrow trouble. Maybe it will be fine after it's serviced.
I doubt you will find a new one still out there, but most rebuilt's from a good tranny shop will have a good warranty. I've have seen up 12 months 12000 miles on some of the better ones. So if it still slips after service and the additive just baby it along until you can get it in.
I'm in SC. Do you know of a good transmission shop in SC?
Nope sorry, we have a Atra in my area and they are really good they even beat Ammco with their customer service. So maybe you have one in your area.
Be careful. Look at this: https://youtu.be/p-CCAR5HK-0 . I think you should send your transmission to service.
The Aisin 6sp autobox is very durable, and I believe relatively unchanged from 2006-2015, so there are a lot available in the salvage markets.
