1997 F-250 shifting problem

Asked by Jeff371812 Jun 28, 2018 at 10:35 AM about the 1997 Ford F-250

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I took my 1997 7.3 with the E4OD automatic
transmission and it wasn’t shifting so I took it to a
tranny shop and they said there was nothing wrong
and it was electrical so I took it to another shop and
they said it was the PCM and I got a new one but it
still doesn’t shift right and I have to go up from first
to drive to work and it won’t down shift unless I
manually do it. I have no clue what to do

Yep!!! I have similar but opposite problem. It "bucks" between 2100 - 3000 RPM's. Auto tranny, I took it to a very reliable trans shop and they said no problem, it's in the engine. Maybe electrical??? Had the computer module changed and other stuff too, but no change in problem ...... well, maybe a little bit better..... it is now intermittent, but always at low speeds when accelerating up from a stop and shifting up. Seemed worse this morning when it was cold and better when hot. Frustrating!! Now "check engine" light is on but that seems to be intermittent too.
