Idle racing after a IAC replacement. How do I slow this thing down to normal?

Asked by dnlboone91 Oct 03, 2015 at 08:40 PM

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced an IAC valve on a 97 Ford E-150 with a 4.6L v-8 due to it
making an annoying, loud humming noise. After replacing the valve on the
first attempt to start the engine the humming got worse and was constant.
I took the valve off again and then checked the gasket then reinstalled the
IAC. Started the engine again and this time there was no humming but the
engine was racing at idle. What can I do to stop this?

sounds like the iac passages are stopped up , id try and take iac and clean the passages out , it will get rid of the humming also, good luck, or you have a big vacuum leak,

Turns out the auto parts store gave me the wrong part. The box and number were correct but the part inside was wrong. So now I wait for the hopefully correct part to be shipped in because no one carries the part in stock.
