Where's the Supercharger?

Asked by Guitarman1930 Dec 03, 2013 at 07:50 PM about the 1999 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning

Question type: General

I have a 1999 Lightning without a supercharger. It has only 66000 miles, clean carfax, all svt gauges, interior, etc. Vin # has it as a real F150 Lightning. It has the 5.4 triton engine and does have a boost gauge in the instrument cluster which never moves. Under the hood has the serpentine belt routing and there is no supercharger in the picture. I thought all 99 and newer Lightnings were supercharged. Any idea what I have?

The supercharger sits on top of the engine/intake manifold and is belt driven off of the crankshaft.

That's not what I'm asking. Has anyone heard of some lightnings NOT being supercharged?

I thought that’s what made them a Lightning F-150... I was going to buy a 1993 and the guy told me it didn’t have a supercharged engine... I’m confused too... Help !!!

Ok, let me lay down the law for yall. The first gen Lightning trucks were made from 1993 until 1996 and had a non supercharged naturally aspirated 5.8l(351 ci) high output motor. The the second gen Lightning trucks were from 1999 until 2003 with a supercharged 5.4l motor. The 1999 to 2003 or 2004 Harley Davidson editions were also a supercharger 5.4l engine, but were a crew cab truck and a 5.5 foot bed. The Harley Davidson edition was detuned from the Lightning for towing and reliability from the added weight from the extra doors and seats. I've been told that there were very very very few 4x4 Ford Lightnings built in 1996 which were the first gen Lightnings with the naturally aspirated 5.8l(351 ci) engine. Also Guitarman1930, did you ever think the previous owner took it off? It's right on top of the engine in the middle.
