Is the Sport Track Towable?

Asked by Don5151 Feb 06, 2008 at 11:48 AM about the 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Question type: General

Can I tow a Ford Sport Track (2WD) on all four wheels behind my RV?

Any suggestions or issues?

Thx,  Don

Short answer, no. The 4WD version would be flat-towable but the 2WD version is not flat-towable. Although I have seen people towing trucks similar to yours in a reverse way -- rear wheels on a dolly -- but I don't think it's recommended.

I have towed ford pickups (rear wheel drive) long distances. Just remove the driveline from the PUMPKIN. If you want to make sure it goes back to the same as original then paint two of the nuts on one side. Do the same with end of driveline. Mate them back together when done towing. Tie drive line securely to frame with nylon quick ties. While towing and you stop to check tow bar assembly check the driveline also.

Drop drive shaft at the differential. No need put in neutral? But must unlock steering wheel. Right.
