How many miles until I would have to replace a rear main seal on my ford explorer

Get her fixed or just keep adding oil. They do leak, and are sometimes hard to get in just right so they don't leak.

If the leak is small then you can try and live with it. It could become really bad though. If it becomes catastrophic you could loose all the oil in just a few minutes and ruin the engine.

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting screwed by my mechanic. Just seems like such low miles for that to happen. But I guess sh-- happens. LOL. 700.00 worth. thanks again

Yah. I think it is a ford thing. Getting it fixed today. And then I am thinking to sell it in a couple of months. Kinda over fords! LOL

Sounds like you got a lemon. I also have a 05 sport trac had it since 06 when it was 15k. Its 188k and stock parts started going at about 160k. Still a fun little truck. Its a bummer you had such a pricey problem for something with extremly low miles. For how old it is. But that's probably why whoever owned it prior must not have driven it often.
