Hi I have a 2005 ford sport trac 4x4, when I start my truck and go to put the heat ( or air )
on it doesn't always turn on..meaning I set the right dial to my desired selection ( face,
face/feet, feet, defrost ect ) then set the left dial to the fan speed I want... And it's a 50/50
chance if it turns on or not... When it does turn on, it works fine unless u shut it off, then
your back to it randomly turning on or not. If I leave the dials set to what I want and start
driving...it will randomly turn on most of the time..it has been doing this for almost a year
now, but has gotten worse... No engine light was on until now..so I stopped at auto zone
and they did their comp check... Three possibilities: 1) check coolant level ...level in
reservoir is perfect... 2) thermostat defective 3) ect engine coolant temperature sensor
defective     I'm guessing the heater/air issue is to blame for these codes...anyone know
which is the more likely suspect?

I would say none. None of them have really anything to do with the heater fan. Since the problem is intermittent I would suspect a switch or wiring problem.

Thanks for your feedback @mikeatpriestlake... I'm def going to look into wiring issues/loose connections. Think I will start on the passenger side as there was a couple of times when we shut the door harder and it would kick on...also we slammed the glove box and got the same result...anyone have any wiring diagrams dealing with the temperature controls?

I had this exact thing happen on a car I owned! slam the door and the fan would come on. Turns out somebody had replaced the fan and did a hack job of wiring in the new one and the phony electrical tape came loose. I bet for sure you have a loose connection or a rubbed wire. Good luck, Mike.

I'm definitely going to have to find a wiring diagram and trace back the wires...should I start at the fan then? @mikeatpriestlake

Yep. But with the door and glove box action you have I am bettn it is down by that fan someplace.
