Truck stalls when I slow down
1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD V8 5.2L, 5 speed
manual, 250,000 miles.
Whenever I slow down from any speed, the
engine turns off, along with the power steering
and brakes. The oil pressure light flickers and
the oil gauge drops to zero.
Sometimes I can save it from turning
completely off by pumping the gas a ton, but
otherwise I have to turn the key and it has
trouble turning over.
It idles fine and drives at slow speeds fine, but
doesn’t like slowing down from any speed. I
also haven’t had any problems with it in
I thought it might be because if bad battery
connections, so I replaced the battery terminal
ends, but it didn’t help at all. Maybe it could
be the crappy after market air filter that was in
it when I bought it? It always is really loud. I’ve
also been told it could be the oil pump or fuel
pump or something. Any help is appreciated!
The engine can stall on deceleration due to a fuel pump problem, which would include a clogged filter, or a problem with the injectors; could be dirty or defective. Could also be caused by a defective or clogged EGR valve or a vacuum leak..... The reason all those dash lights come on is the engine is stopped or running too slow to keep them off.
