Can not depress accelerator very far, can't get over 1,000 rpm in 1998 Dodge 3500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Accelerator can be depressed a little way, but seems to be "stuck" on
something. Can not even "force" it beyond this point. Engine runs fine but
will not give more than about 1,100 rpm. Tried cleaning linkage springs with
brake fluid and then heavily lubricating w/WD40 while pumping the
accelerator. Seemed to 'break free' for about 100 miles, then got "stuck"
again. Could it be the injector?

I checked the cable and lubricated it as much as possible, did not help.

Husband has been checking components. Disconnecting the cruise control has no effect. He thinks it might be the injection pump. Do you know where I can find, online, a good schematic drawing of the INTERNAL WORKINGS of the injection pump?

Thank you. He now thinks it is not necessarily the injector, but the rod that goes into the injector. (?)
