Hi all!

Would Like to know what my dads 1998
Dodge 2500 12 Valve Diesel 2 Door Crew
Cab is valued at.

My dad was a diesel fanatic and absolutely
loved this truck. But he passed away and
my mom is ready to let it go.

I know this rngine has a pretty good
reputation and is pretty sought after.

It has 239,130 km on it.
Any help would be appreciated.

That is not a lot of miles for one of these engines. Has the killer dowel pin (KDP) been fixed? Does it have a 53 block?


My bad - the 53 block started the next year after yours.

@F_O_R not sure if the KDP has been done on it. Something I'll have to look into


That is low miles for that year. I just bought a a 06 2500 4wd mega cab with 221km for almost $17k I'd value yours around $10-13 k. Keep it on the market for awhile

I have a 1998 dodge 12 valve 2 door with the Laramie package. I have had seat covers on it since it was new and have 320k on the engine. Replaced the tranny at 240k. I run all synthetics in it and the truck is like new. A kid ran into the driver side last week. May 18, 2018. His ins hasn’t had an adjuster look at it yet but I’m afrAid they will total the truck. I am still driving it and think I could even tow with it. Neither of us were going iver 20mph and I’m certain there is no frame damage. So this is long, but I’d like to know if I should just have the truck fixed and not let the insurance people look at it. If they look at it and say the damage is 6k and the truck is only worth 6 k they will total it and once that happens I won’t be able to just walk away and get it fixed. What do you think I should do? Ps. If they total the truck I would be very interested in buying you’rs as I need a tow vehicle and that 98 12 valve cant be beat


That's a tough choice, look around and ask body shops about the cost of them fixing it. Then ask if you bought the parts to see, if it's a 1/3 or 1/2 the value maybe they'll fix it. Now I'm sorry my truck ain't for sale I have too much in it
