my 1998 318 dodge ram 1500 will crank but idle roughly for a minute or two then die or lag real low and pick back up and then die and back fire when you give it some gas . i have put a new throtle bod
i have put a new throttle body position sensor on it and a new map sensor and
a new idle air control valve on it the timing is corect but it stills back fires and
smokes and idles real rough
Sounds like it has jumped timing, turn the engine to TDC on number 1 compression stroke and check the distributor rotor, it should be pointed at number 1 on the cap, if it is not then check the timing chain for excessive slop. If the rotor is dead on then you may have a plugged exhaust, you could loosen up the head pipes right at the exhaust manifolds to give you about an inch of clearance to see if it will fire up then.
