99 Dodge Ram

So while driving the truck the check gages
light came on looked at the dash and the
battery was loosing charge went from 14 to
8 and the battery is not even a year old so
drove home turned the truck off tried to
restart the truck and the battery was dead
woke up this morning truck started but
would not stay running unless I had my
foot on the gas and even then it still
wanted to die does this mean it’s the
altinator

check electrical connections make sure they're tight , check the alternator , it should be putting out at least 14 volts at the batt terminals , don't make a new alt. charge a weak batt. make sure it's charged

Do you mean make sure the battery is charged

Cause now when we put the key in and turn it over the battery gage goes to straight to 8 volts like it’s a dead battery

I think you have a short somewhere , that much of a drop is a problem
