I have a Dodge 1999 1500 pickup and when I step on the gas the air conditioner stops working and the lights get really bright I was wondering what could cause that

Sounds like you have a bad voltage regulator. Check the voltage to see if it goes above 13.5 volts when you rev the engine. High voltage can damage the wiring.
