Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I bought my first ram it's a 2000 dodge ram 1500
Laramie slt 4x4 and from what I have heard is that the
transmissions are garbage I was wondering whats the
next best transmission I should get in case mine blows
that would bolt up to the 5.9 that's in the truck any
suggestions would help and where to get them and any
other issues people have had with the 22nd gen rams

They are not garbage. They are reliable as long as you service them correctly. Unless it's slipping as it shifts and the lock up torque converter is in good shape you should be fine. As with anything that is automatic it will eventually wear and you may experience problems. There are many rebuilders out there that correct the inadequacies, or inherent problems during a rebuild. But the rebuilder should replace all the internal bushings and correct any valve body flaws during the rebuild. Stick with the tranny you have. It's programed to work together with your TCU and the transmission it was paired with. If you buy a rebuild remember there is a difference between a rebuild and a remanufacture. A rebuild takes care of the seals, steels, and frictions internally. A remanufacture corrects all the internal hard parts such as the shells and hubs, sun and planetary gears also. Good luck. Just make sure you service your tranny regularly.
