New alternator resulted in battery acid leakage

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins diesel would not
start. Replaced the alternator then the first time it
started one of the two batteries leaked acid.
Replaced both batteries with new ones and one of
the new batteries also leaked upon ignition. Clearly
not a battery issue. Could it be the new alternator?
What would cause that?

I think the alternator may be putting out too much voltage which caused the battery to boil.
