# 17 fuse blows when engaging transmission. 1992 ford xlt fourwheel drive
with 5.0 engine.

What circuit does fuse 17 protect? there is a short there. Check connectors wiring harness for insulation loss.. I,m only guessing #17 fuse protects the 4x4 shifting solenoid circuit. Use a multimeter and start checking.
