Question type: Maintenance & Repair
We have a 96 F-150 for months it would only
start when it was cold. We put in a new fuel
pump. It stopped. A month later the fuel
pump went out. We installed another new
fuel pump it still will not start. Checked the
fuel rail no gas is getting to it. Help!!!!

Check all your fuses. If they look/test ok then check for power at your fuel pump. Also double check the electrical connections at fuel pump. Also have you checked your emergency fuel pump shut off switch. Most are located under the dash on passenger side of console. If it's tripped then no power to fuel pump. Very easy to reset. Just push down on button. I would check this first. Check your owners Manuel for exact location.
If there is no pressure at the rail, a simple explanation could be a clogged 21 year old fuel filter. If the filter has never been changed, begin there. Next, try to trace the fuel pump wires back to a connection/fitting point and see if power is being supplied. If no power, begin checking backward toward the engine to determine why. If power is present you will have to drop the tank again and check at the pump for any connection problems. Pay close attention to the grounds. Voltage can be supplied, but if a ground is defective the pump will not work.
Sometime,s this issue will lead you to a bad fuel pressure regulator,if filter and pump are good,
