I have a 1997 f150 can a 2001 f150 engine fix that ?
The base motor itself maybe but there is some changes somewhere and where I do not know, (but 97-98 is the same as far as I can tell for a complete motor swap) otherwise there is some differences maybe in computer/sensors/ accessories ect. Iook at pull-a-part website which list all compatible years they have on lot and for a complete motor sway they only list 97-98 years as the same so again must be a reason.
If the state you live in has annual smog testing, check if there are any restrictions. Some states will not allow engine swaps more than two years outside the manufacture model. You may also require electronics for the newer engine and definitely a PCM flash if you are able to use the PCM from the 97.
