2000 f150 does not drive past 20 mph after transmission rebuilt

I just had the transmission rebuilt and put in and
now my truck won't drive past 15-20 mph but the
speedometer quickly goes up to 100 mph and then
it cuts off the gas on the pedal... everytime I press
on the brake the needle quickly drops back down.
Could it be the transmission still having problems or
a sensor or even the cat converter? I need help

Your catalytic converter has nothing to do with your speedo. Have your codes pulled. The trans and the speedo use the vehicle speed sensor, if it reads erratic then it won't function properly. It may need changed. Some times it's on the rear diff and sometimes it's on the rear of the trans.

I changed the VSS and the speedometer is still not working properly, I'm going to take the transmission back to the shop and see if the find a error

So the transmission is fine and I changes the VSS I think it may be the computer if the truck its giving mixed signal

HELP... TRANS SWAP NEED OSS ???? FROM VSS... help i to had a 2002 f150 4r70w put 2004 4r704 was late model the 2002 has a oss sensor with 6 holes for sensing the 2004 has a vss sensor with 32 bars for sensing the 2002 has the output shaft cut for the mechanical gear however the 2004 does not have the splines on the output shaft.... i can not change computer because totally different wire harness and i do not think the dash adjust will compensate as much ??? can i get VSS on differential????d4dusty@gmail.com

What a coincident.. working with brother and had the same problem... looked all over internet and utube for a possiible solution.. After about 2 weeks of trying this and that found out that the reluctor wheels where very different. One reluctor wheel has about 20 teeth and the other 6 teeth. Didnt get into the specifics just got pissed off when we found the problem. Furthermore the reluctor wheel on Ford is a tail of transmission but not in the rear cone; therefore seems like the whole transmission has to be gutted in order to change reluctor wheel. Whereas older Chevy (only other transmission i’ve messed with) has a geared tooth in the cone; therefore the rear cone can be removed much ezier then pulling transmission to replace the reluctor wheel. Possible solution: 1. Reprogram PCM. Costly if you do it personal, need speciallized gagets. Dealer may do it for a $$. As mentioned got pissed and just put thought into this. The reluctor wheels are offered by Ford so they should have the PCM reprogramming 2. Use a frequnecy divider circuit. Count teeth on both wheels and find the ratio needed. Put frequency divider circuit into Google and you’ll get a very inexpensive 555 timer circuit. Looks promising, but you’ll have to put time and $$ into that option. This opition should fool the PCM enough to get going. 3. pull transmission, rebuild with correct (or old) reluctor wheel, then reinstall. Which is the route most knuckle dragging mechanics would venture... like us. I hope that helped. PS. Your two-wire-sensor is baically an open close switch therefore counting the number of pulses on the reluctor wheel. In turn PCM is converting to MPH and sending that to odometer, transmission controls, and over speed shut-off. As a sensor that feeds into vehicle controls; Ford should do a better of figuring out that somehting is not right with the turns ratios. I hope that helped.

I have 2000 ford f150. When it runs for around 20min it doesn't shift right. Eventually it stops pulling. After it completely cools down. It will run again
