I have  2001 Ford F150 4X4 6cyl. that overheats almost as soon as it is put into gear. About a minute or so. But when I put it in park the truck does not overheat. I could leave it in park for 45 minutes and it does not get hot. I replaced the thermostat and the water pump. Any one have a clue what might be the problem? Thanks Chuck in Dallas 972 904 7759

are you sure truck is overheating? or is temp gauge some how finding a ground when u put truck in gear? try starting truck stone cold and put directly in gear if it reads overheating in 1 min. then u just have a short even if u had no coolent it wouldent overheat in one min.from dead cold

Yes, I am sure the car is overheating. When I start it up the temp is fine but I drive for abou3 or 4 miles and when I pop the radiator the antifreeze and water is boiling. The hose and cap are very hot. Thanks Chuck

try by passing the trans cooler with a rubber line but just for a short time if this works replace the torkconverter it could be the trans making the engine over heat
