want to drop engine out of 2004 f-150 5.4 triton and want to put in a 5.8
need to know who I should go through or if i could build mounts myself or even if it would work if components would hook up right

What year is the 5.8 coming out of? I would suspect the block used for the 5.4 and the 5.8 are the same.
After a little research it appears the 5.8 has an aluminum block and is based on the engine geometry of the previous year's 5.4 engine. The deck height of the 5.8 was increased to 256 MM's but this should not be a factor in going into a truck. My concern would be the hookup ability to a 2004 tranny and possible modifications to the drive shaft. I suggest you obtain the year of manufacture of the 5.8 and what vehicle it came out of. I doubt it will be a simple drop in.

late ninety 4x4 wanting to put it in that 04 the 04 has the newer body style it has the drive shaft with it you dont think it will be easy? tritonnightmare out....lol
Spoke to the young ford mechanic who lives down the street. He stated the ford modular engines 4.6 - 5.0- 5.4 & 6.0 should have the same bolt up pattern from 1993 to present. Some (and he stressed some) 5.8 may have a different bolt up pattern. As an example he pointed to by 2010 F-150 with the 4.6 three valve. He stated without looking the driveshaft on my vehicle is a two part shaft. Adding if in the future, I changed out the engine to a 5.8 I MAY encounter a problem with the bolt up and or drive shaft length. He added the exchange should not be a problem regarding engine mounts, if required, as mounts are manufactured for just that purpose if required. He suggested you first look at the bolt up pattern on the 5.8 and look at the pattern on your engine. The next measurement will be the distance from the hookup to the rear end. A fraction of an inch to long or short is as good as a mile. In our area we have a thire generation speed shop. He suggested you contact one in your area with the year of the engine being removed anong with the tranny currently installed. Then supply them with the year of manufacture of the 5.8. Adding, they probably know the answer off the top of their head.
I recently bought a 1999 f 150 with the 5.4,wish i would have left it were it sat.I bought this ford thinking i would have the dependable truck like the early and mid 90,s ford v8 engines,no such luck
I would love to swap out for a 460,351 or even a 302
