Steering wheel shakes while driving over 50 mph

A tire can cause shaking at specific speeds when bad, in fact most bad tires seem to shake right around 50MPH. Take it to a shop and have it spin balanced, you can also try swapping tires front to back and see if that changes where you feel the shaking coming from. I'd eliminate the tires as a cause first before digging into wheel assemblies, axles, or suspension.
