how do you test a motor on a 2001 bmw z3 convertible top? i think I know how can you verify this for me?

Compression would be one test. A leak down test is better than a standard compression test. You could pay for an oil analysis and have the engine ECU checked for codes. An emissions test is another way to evaluate an engine.
