SMG Hydraulic Pump Replacement

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Further details on your question or topicI have an 02' SMG, I started having problems with the SMG light coming on and off randomly. I just took it into the local BMW shop to find out that the Hydraulic pump is bad. I was told that i could fool the system by removing a fuse and putting it back in to start the car and drive it without any problems but as soon as I cut it off I will have to go through the steps again to start it. BMW wants to charge me $3900.00 for parts and labor, does anyone know where I can find the pump or if this is even the problem.

hey bud, im not sure how bad your problem is. What happend to me was that everytime I would change the gear, even when the car is parked from R to N it would make a nasty sound. I took it to my shop and he told me the pump was bad and that was starving the transmission of oil. I would highly recommend you try not to fool the car, this will lead a much bigger bill later on. Just change the pump if you can. My honest opinion, pay a little extra and swap it, I am currently converting my car to plain ol' 6 speed from SMG. Sure, SMG is great fun and super fast at shifts but its a lot of money at keeping it running good. Next step, is up to you. Good Luck, hope I helped.
