X5 ZF gear box problems

Asked by Titus Aug 21, 2014 at 09:52 PM about the 2005 BMW X5

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 BMW X5 3.0d (E53) with ZF 6HP26 auto gear box. It has done approx. 130.000 Km. When cold, gear shifting is hard and abrupt, when gear box warmed up, gear changes OK but when I come to stop and it shifts into first gear, I get a noticeable kick in the back every time. Oil and filter service was done at 100.000 Km, no obvious problems, filters clean, oil dark brown / black color but didn't smell burnt. Oil analysis showed slightly raised metal and copper contamination values but not dramatic. Can this be rectified with software adjustment or other methods?
Cheers, Titus

hello, i have fixed this problem sometimes with software and adaptations and in some cases with the use of wear additives. i recommend you to use a good additive before changing any parts and make the software corrections with the BMW icom equipment.
