Does my Starter get hot causing not to start?

Asked by Rogelio Aug 07, 2012 at 07:18 PM about the 1977 Ford Thunderbird

Question type: General

My 1977 T-Bird runs great and all with A/C on and temperature guage staying under low normal temp.  After a few miles or so 25 to 30 miles shutting off engine.  Engine has a hard time cranking over to start again.  If I wait a few minutes or so 25 to 30 minutes engine will start again.  Could this be my starter giving me problems?

Yes it is. My 93 Tbird had a hard time starting over every time it would be hot out. It would crank really slow. Then about a week later drove to my sisters then back tried to go to the store nothing every thing else but it didn't crank. So yes it could be your starter.

Ford starters are notorious for doing EXACTLY what your's is doing. I remember going thru 4 rebuilt starters on my '79 Ford pickup with the 351 engine until I got smart and put a brand new one on it. . Change to a brand new (NOT REBUILT) starter and it should solve all your problems Kenny/ MrBlueOval
