1972 Ford Thunderbird engine?

Asked by Apr 27, 2015 at 09:24 PM about the 1972 Ford Thunderbird

Question type: Car Customization

I've come across a 1972 Ford Thunderbird but need to replace the engine, what engine
will fit and run best? I'm not looking for an original engine just something that will get it
running and get decent MPG.

I would not go smaller than a 351W.

302.

302 won't carry a full sized Thunderbird, those rigs were heavy.

Go with original,a change will cost more in the end.

Just rebuild what you have. Tennisshoes is right, those things are HEAVY.

I'm no expert, but my first car was a 1972 T-bird I bought from a guy whose dad owned a body shop. They had dropped a Lincoln engine into that car and I always had more power than anyone else on the strip!
