I have a 66 VIN 6Y87Q123529 and I'd like to know how many Town Landau with 428 motor were built in 1966 and was this the only year for the 428 in the Thunderbird?

The Town Landau was body style 63D, of which 35,105 were built during the 1966 model year. The 428 was optional, but was probably fairly popular. Build numbers by engine were not immediately available to me but you could check out the Standard Catalog of American Cars, 1946-1976, for this information if need be.

It had the same 428 cubic inch engine horsepower as the original Shelby Mustang 428 thus had more power then the standard 428 or the 390 offered in T-Birds. Of course the weight of the T-bird kept the power to weight ratio lower then the Mustang but still made for spirited performance for a luxury car of the day.

Had a '66' convertible 428 was told by a Ford executive that approx. 1,000 were manufactured of the 7049 convertibles made . Others were the 390 engine very rare .

There were 5,066 convertables built in 1966 out of those 74 had 428s with factory a/c and less than 1% of all 66 tbirds had cruse control, know as highway pilot

I like what I hear. I looking @ a Q=car rage top with cruse control and AC. It's going to take all my life saving's however You can't take your money the grave.

I have a 66 convertible 428 with AC. I haven't been able to work on it since my child was born 12 years ago. It was in a barn in Alabama for thirty years and the body is spotless. I did dent the fender towing it last year. I will sell it for the right price.

It was mentioned earlier that the Q code 428 had the same HP as the Shelby 428 . Thats absolutely incorrect considering the Shelby had a 428 P.I. with dual 4 barrel carbs , much better intake and exhaust , a completely different cam and timing curve. The Shelby had 50- 55 more hp if truth be told. The Q code thunderbird got the standard 428 with the same cam , intake , carb and exhaust the 390 thunderbird got. Only difference was bore, stroke and sticker price. The 428 had better off the line performance but the 390 was a faster car in reality

I have a mint 66 TBird with 428Q engine. Engine and engine compartment is also in mint condition. Everything on it is OEM. Even has the optional roadster kit and Kelly-Hayes Wire wheels. Have a set of fender skirts that goes with the car but didn't put them on. Car looks better without them. Car has the original AM radio with factory installed 8-track player. Both still works. Car has won many awards in car show. See photo. Would be interested in selling for a REASONABLE offer.

The 67 Thunderbird was also available with the 428 Thunderjet. And contrary to what some have claimed ,The 428 used in the T bird is not the same as the 428 PI used in the Shelby GT 500 . They are vastly different in reality. The 428 used in the Thunderbird was the same as the 7.0 litre in the Galaxies. The Shelby got the Police Interceptor 428 with much better cam, exhaust, intake with dual 4 barrel carbs , dual point distributors and the " A " scratched 428 block with reinforced webbing at main bearing saddles . The 428 was no slouch in any form, so enjoy yours

It was also stated that the 390 powered Bird was faster then the 428 powered Bird. Thats patently Ludicrous . The 390 was a higher revving engine some claim but having owned a 66 with a 390 along with a 66 Q code I can absolutely confirm the Q code 428 powered Bird was Quicker as well as Faster. Significantly more powerful in fact.

Ive got a 67 FORD LTD 428 with only 84,000 original miles. There surface rusty all over but metal is still in good shape minus the few dents being a California car. Interior is in fair shape, but needs work with cracked das. Looking to sale for the right price.

I've got a Q code 1966 428 Thunderbird convertable that is for sale runs and drives with 67,000 miles trunk floor is rusted because someone left brake parts in it. But the rest of the car is solid. White with red interior 541-378-7018. Nice car that needs a home

My parents had 2 t-birds at the same time in the 60's. My dad surprised my mom with a new '68 2-door white bird (thank God with NO landau top..very sleek) with the 429 and loaded with options. Blew us all away as it was the family's first luxury car. They loved it and drove it to nearly 200K miles. It was a torque beast. 6 months into their ownership, my dad couldn't resist buying a used '67 in brittany blue with the suicide doors, and a 428. Also great car. We felt like millionaires! It was a wonderful time. I kept them showroom perfect. I miss my parents, they were exemplars of the greatest generation and very loving.

Hi There. I have a 66’ landau with all power options, AC and cruise control. It has original motor and trans. And really low documented mileage. 17,320. It’s not the convertible though. Vintage burgundy with white interior. How much do you think it’s worth? I am considering selling it but not sure I can pull the trigger. Thank you.

Father in law passed in 2019 and left us a nice 1966 Q Code Convertible. I have the engine out as I am restoring the vehicle. Has 71K. Probably will sell when I get it back on the road. I'm basically a Chevy man but I see some really neat engineering in this car and the engine.

'Bravo Sierra' on the 74 convertibles with 428 and A/C until someone can produce solid documentation. Ford didn't keep track of minute production stats on these cars, and regretfully the only way to get to this is to comb through all 69,176+ invoices that Marti Auto Works now holds. Even when Lois Eminger held the invoices she wasn't interested in people going through them to make a count. Based on Owner Surveys and a registry I maintain for Vintage Thunderbird Club International (www.vintagethunderbirdclub.net) since the 1990s, I highly suspect that at least 25% of all '66 production were 428s, regardless of body style, and that well over 2/3 of them had A/C. Prove me wrong, please...I've been trying to find this answer since the 1980s!!
