It has to come out to replace ft pump, I would rebuild it as long as it is out.

Be careful you have the rascal drained when you drop it. They have a bazillion quarts of ATF in them and it WILL go all over the floor if you don't. I changed one in a long-ago February in an unheated garage and I had to roll around in it to complete the job. I had long hair and it got soaked and was wrapping around the creeper wheels. My clothes stuck to my back soaked in cold ATF. Make sure it's drained! :-)
