55T-Bird question again, The cable is new , has lubrication , the gear looks like is not fully engage , 3-4 teeth gets chew up enough so is not engage any more , what is the correct # of teeth to use

The cable is new , has lubrication , the gear looks like is not fully engage , 3-4
teeth gets chew up enough so is not engage any more , what is the correct #
of teeth to use ? I've used a 19 tooth ...and  20 tooth , works for 2-3 weeks ,
then stop, same problem, do any one know if they made a metal gear .

Hi Tennisshoes, Thanks for your help , that's what I'm afraid of , having to drop the transmission to get to that gear . I have investigate that gear by putting my finger to feel if any wear or play , can not tell. Thanks again, Gordon Ng
