Question type: General

I would like to know just how rare my car is. '68 LTD Country Squire w/428, bucket seats with a console shifter, fully loaded w/elec and all original, still runs awesome but tranny slips. Needs restored but I'm second owner. The original owner was a Ford dealership owner in Denver and ordered the car special. Did they come with bucket seats, ever?

A Country Squire with the buckets and console option is a very rare car. I would bet that there were fewer than 100 with the option. To find out exactly how many, and everything else about your car, you need the Marti Report. The deluxe report tells you EVERYTHING you could ever want to know about the car.

Addition: If you are keeping that rare car, you might want to join stationwagonforums.com. It is a great site full of people who know a LOT about these old wagons. After 5 member posts to the threads, there is a members' only for sale section that is free. I am certain that there are people on there who would LOVE to have the old girl. If I had somewhere to keep her, I certainly would be very interested.

The ONLY year that Ford offered bucket seats and center console on any wagon was 1963 and very few were actually produced. Your 68 Country Squire originally had a bench seat and the previous owner Ford dealer swapped it out for buckets and a console for some odd reason, maybe only because he was a Ford dealer and had access to the seats and console from possibly a wrecked Galaxie 500 or XL. or takeouts from another 68 Galaxie .Having bucket seats actually will take away from the originality of the car but since it probably looks factory installed it might add to the value just because it's different looking. I have a 69 Country Squire wagon that I hotrodded with 69 Galaxie 500 bucket seats and console but they were added by me and it looks factory fresh. The floorboards are the same on all the fullsize Fords so the boltholes are already there from the factory. Kenny/MrBlueOval

I just got the Marti Report on my "68 Country Squire and for the motor, it has a 428-4V. Does the 4V mean 4 valves? If not, what then?

The 4V on your report actually means 4 -Venturi which means a 4 barrel carburator. So your 428 big block has/had a 4 barrel carb. from the factory. MrBlueOval.

My '69 Squire is a 2 owner car. The original owner was a Ford district rep in N.J. I bought it from his nephew. I might be interested in purchasing your wagon too if the price is right. Can you send me some pics and more info. to fordaholic69@yahoo.com ? thanx, MrBlueOval/Kenny

I purchased this car last year, and after researching the Data Tag with no Trim code listed, I searched for the build sheet and found it under the carpet. It had "special order" circled in Red and validated the fact that it didn't come with a bench seat. After sending this info to Kevin Marti, it was determined this car came from the factory with buckets and a console. less than an estimated 7 produced.

In 1963 you could get bucket seats and console as a Regular Production Option (RPO) on the Squires. Other years it would be special-ordered. I know of a '67 Squire that also has bucket seats and console from the factory. I believe it was a Ford exec who ordered that car. The build sheet, lack of a trim code and the fact that it was a Ford dealership owner that ordered it, all support that this '68 Squire came with the bucket seats and console.
