1988 F350  Diesel  2wd manual trans  Dual tanks

Has been working fine,  gas gauge was nearing 1/4th tank so I switched from Rear to front (about 3/4 tank ) and pulled into gas station - only took 5 gallons  should have been more like 10  I continued on my way after switching to the rear tank.  I went to fill it this morning,  my left tank was empty and my right tank was full. my gauge said both were full.  Any advice on where to look into troublershooting?

im not possitive but if there is a electric switch to swap between tanks. it could be going bad.
