300 inline six terrible power & mileage

Asked by lottiedottie Feb 08, 2017 at 06:42 AM about the 1976 Ford F-250

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Why does my 300 straight six have terrible 'power' and even worse gas mileage? I
mean, it's terrible! What can I do to greatly improve both? I believe the tranny is a
C3; two barrel Carburetor.

Sounds like the the engine needs a tune-up and a good going over.

You don't mention the mileage on this beast so who knows how much wear and tear it has on it. Give it a tune up, check the timing, but if there is a lot of wear on the rotating assemblies there's only so much you can do without digging deeper into the motor.
