89 f150 won't shut off

Asked by matty3232 Jun 20, 2016 at 07:21 PM about the 1989 Ford F-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

89 f150. Started just fine.. went to shut off and the motor stopped but
alternator and everything else kept running. Disconnect the battery and it stops
it. Hook up the battery and it starts running everything even with the keys out of
it. Turn the key in the on position and hook the battery up and it fires right up.
Made it back home and noticed smoke coming from the solenoid on the
passenger side. Any help would be great

If the engine stops running, there is no way the alternator can continue to spin since it is belt driven.
