Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1988 Ford F150 with the 302, when I start it, it would normally go on a high idle until the motor reached a certain temperature, then it would kick down. Now when I start it, it idles for a second and dies. The only way it stays running is if you give it some gas. Any possible answers? Its a fuel injected 302 if that helps.

week fuel pump, cloged fuel filter + cat converter,it could also be a thermostat stuck open, this will not let the engine warm up to operateing temp, sending a false signal to computer.

We're thinking its the one of the two high idle sensors. Because when I start it, it'll run for about 3 seconds, then dies, The only way I can keep it running is to give it gas. But once you give it gas for a while, then it'll run like normal. Still not sure. But I'll be sure to look into it. THANKS!
