Starter grinding and not starting the truck

Asked by Jun 02, 2019 at 09:41 AM about the 1988 Ford F-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1988 Ford Lariat F150 with a 5.0 and had a
automatic transmission. We have changed the
automatic to a 5-speed out of a 1990 Ford Lariat with
a 300 straight 6 and 5 speed. We used the starter
that came with the 5-speed with a brand new
flywheel and it started for a while and has now
started just grinding and not turning the engine over.
What do I look for in repairing this
