Question type: Car Customization

I just bought a 87 ford F150, straight 6...... and i see that it has all the stuff on it for the emmissions crap, so i was wondering if i can take anything off that will give me some more horse power and wont mess the truck up?  Also what can i do to get the steering back to wher it needs to be, its really loose, can i just replace the rag joint and get a wheel allignment?

how loose is your steering/suspension? it might be bad tie-rods and ball joints. And I will strongly agree with papa on the emmissions

the steering is pretty loose, i can turn the steering wheel about 1/4 of a turn before it starts to turn the tires. Its pretty bad. ill check out the tie rods and ball joints though. Ya see, i was a chevy man my whole life and just now have a Ford, i know most things do the same deed as far as parts but i know that there are different tricks for Chevys and Fords, so i just wanted to see what people who know Fords had to say. Thanks, ill check that out. How easy is it to pop out a windsheild on a ford, i need a new one, i know on chevys its really easy?

If your front end is ok ( no loose tie rods , or ball joints ) then you probably need to have the steering box adjusted , or replaced . If the vehicle has high mileage , it might be best to replace the steering box with a good used one , or a re-built one . The windshield will be a bigger job to do then the old Chevys !!( urethane is used to secure the windshield )
