Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1984 Ford f-150 4.9 automatic, I
was on the freeway and all of a sudden it
started acting like it was down shifting to a
lower gear! I always use the overdrive when
I'm on the freeway, the engine started to
tacking at high rate, the transmission fluid is
ok, could use some expert advice on where
to troubleshoot first!

I have rebuilt the engine and just about everything else on this thing except the transmission. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to but it sounds like that might be the problem. Do you know how much a new transmission would cost, versus a rebuild?

Would the transmission speed sensor cause these problems?
