why would my exhaust manifold glow red when it starts to run ruff would it be cat converter

I have a good flow and pressure out tail pipe but you can feel it when
it messes At tail pipe has flowmaster exhaust but cat looks original.  
I put in new brain in distributor tonight

Stopped up cat can cause this. Did you do anything with the timing of the engine? If so timing issues might also cause to high of exhaust temps. But if you still running the factory cat I would just about bet it's stopped up. Is cat glowing red or another part of the exhaust.

Manifold glowing red? Are you sure you put the plug wires back on correctly? Did you just replace the ignition module or did you completely pull the dist out?

is the engine temp ok (195-205)? thermostat might make it run rich and eventually collapse cat.
