86 4 cyl s10 rough start

So i bought an 86 s10 pickup with 152k miles and
at 154.5k now, several months back, ran fine until
this morning when i started it, it hesitated and then
surged and ran a little rough for a few mins, once i
drove it after a couple mins it smoothed out. But
my only means of transportation for myself and
my disabled mother. Any ideas before i take to a
shop and they rape me.

Tune-up! Check ignition timing as part of the tune up also fuel filter
