service engine soon light goes on

I  have  1989  suburban  that  the service  engine  soon   light  started  going  on   3  days  ago after  running  it  for  about  20minuts and  it  will not  go out  until  I turn  off  the  truck  what  can  be  the  problem ???


the only thing  I  notice  is  my  alternator  reader  it  goes down  ( just before negative charge mark)  after  running  it  for  that  time  .

please  advise.

I think you need to read the trouble codes. Look up how to read OBD1 codes for your truck.
