How do you open the 1979's doors when locked with the key?

I can't seem to get into this car now that it's locked. The Key turns but the door stays locked as if there is some type of safety locking system.

Are you using the ignition key to try and unlock the car. Older cars use the trunk key for the doors

I have to turn my key to the right and "force" it (gently) a bit to unlock. It turns about 1/4 of the way before the pressure point. i just give it a little hard turn past that and it opens. Good Luck.
