1974 paint code

Asked by faf Jul 08, 2008 at 09:23 PM about the 1974 Chevrolet Corvette

Question type: General

I am looking at buying a 1974 vette - the color now is blue but the paint code is 68L.  The corvette sites do not show 68L as a paint code so how do I know what the correct color is.  Also, what is J28 trim?

according to the site i found on Chevy paint codes, there is only one blue for Corvette, here is the link for the site http://www.paintcodes.net/chevy-paint-codes-1974.html

Paints codes state 968 as Brown, the only Blue is Medium as the code states 922. In 74 they used different numbering systems. Go pick up the new version of the Corvette Black Book, it will have all the information you need. Mine is at home; maybe when I get home I can get you updated.

OK so the book states; the color code on trim plates was generally a two number code followed by the letter L. The code may aslo appear with a 9 before the two numbers and no letter following. So your 68L trim tag states the car was original Dark Brown. As for your interior you may want to look at the number again. Is your interior saddle leather?
