Running the numbers

Question type: General

Hello all,
Newby here. :)
I bought and have been working on a 1965 Impala SS.  That is it's suppose to be an SS.  Not knowing any better I didn't run the numbers before I got the car.  I recently did find a site for the numbers and find that according to them it's a Sport Coupe. 16437.  An SS should be 16637.  My question is how important are "The Numbers"?  Does "Sport Coupe" include the "SS" models in 65?
For me, now, it's not huge deal.  I still enjoy working on and driving it. But, I've always told everyone it's an SS.  If I ever put it up for sale I just want to know if it an SS or not.

Hint.  Advice.  Always welcome. :)
John
