Yes, and it is in fact a chain, not a belt like many newer vehicles. Replacement is not as strictly recommended at 100,000 miles as it is for timing belts.

but if you hear rattling from the front of the engine - coming from under the timing chain cover) - replace it and the tensioner now!
does the 85 cav have a timing chain?
