here.. go with a big rv cam +/-.. after change to 1.6 intake rockers on intake first..see if its better or slower... then change the exh..to see the same..what that does is tell you if you intake/carb is good/close.to small/to big...same with exh... anyway heres a start ..without your comp/year engine ..will you degree your dist to put in all the timing by 3000 rpm ??? try is link if to big go down 1 size..you can always beef up the stuff.. run a wood spacer under the carb... tune the collectors....>http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam- specs/Details.aspx?csid=1&sb=2

well any cam that makes TQ for his set up we call RV..go for a rv cam for the TQ.....and think james above said to go with a 384o cam Duration @ .050" Lift:.. i think he meant 284o ..and even at that if thats the speck Duration @ .050" Lift: its still to big....anyway >Xtreme 4x4™ X4262H; Hyd. Flat Tappet; '58-'98 Chevy Small Block >Part:comp cams 12-239-3... go with a cam like below..you should get new rockers,,even hp stock 1.5 are better than the factory cause one might be 1.35,one might be 1.54, one 1.48 ..this is why you blueprint... so just order a set of 1.6 rockers.. also you can call herbert cams...best grinds for the price..tell them what you have and say i need something a little smaller than a 30-30 gring for solids or cross over for hyd... here a little picture of my 280z im putting together..350 ci street dot class 10.0 car

you said >Go for a torque cam (longer duration cam like 384 degrees duration) i think you just hit the 3= 384o instead of the 2= 284o...im just trying to keep him in the under 240 @50 duration range.. here again is the cam he is asking for>Part:comp cams 12-239-3.

also after the fact if he puts on 1.6 rockers and it runs slower..than the cam is to big...if he puts on 1.6 rockers and its quicker...than the cams to small...but in a good way..
